Leigh started the match on the front foot, looking to capitalise on their pre-season work against a newly formed Vigo/OGs team looking to find their rhythm. However, against the early run of play, the hosts struck first. After a heavy carry from Leigh in midfield, a big tackle dislodged the ball, allowing Vigo/OGs fly-half Martin Fry to hack forward and win the race to touch down for a converted score.
Undeterred by the early setback, Leigh re-established control through structured phases and clinical execution. Pressure built up across the pitch, leading to tries for Jake Bright and Tom Swallow, both converted by Bright, who also struck a neat penalty to give Leigh a relatively comfortable 15–7 lead at the interval.
The second half began as a fierce, end-to-end battle. Vigo/OGs rallied behind heavy carries from their forwards, now finding their feet in the game who drove over from short range following a lineout maul to reduce the deficit. Leigh responded immediately with another sharp attacking set, as Swallow crossed for his second try of the afternoon after a huge scrum effort, extended further by a score from Jack Parker to push Leigh ahead 27–14.
The hosts fought back once more through a converted try from David Brooks to make it a six-point game. With tension rising in the final quarter, the influential Vigo/OGs flyhalf Martin Fry was sent to the bin. Despite being down a man, a late, unassisted line break by substitute Harry Pattison brought the home team to within a single point at 27–26. With their primary goal kicker now off the field, the conversion attempt from out wide drifted just past the uprights.
Leigh dug deep in the closing minutes, keeping their defensive structure intact to close out the game and secure a fantastic away win.
